Fun Cheap Vacations for Couples

Taking a romantic vacation is an expensive proposition. In addition to a hotel room, you also need to set money aside for food, transportation and tickets to events or attractions, and all for two people. Luckily you'll find less expensive options that help you save money on your trip, without sacrificing any of the fun elements of your vacation. These include trips to historic sites, amusement parks and a variety of other locations.
  1. Romantic Campout

    • If you or your significant other loves the great outdoors, then skip the hotel room and make your own camping adventure. State parks all across the country offer camping and other outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, swimming, biking and even whitewater rafting. Many in-park activities are free, though you may want to rent some sports equipment.

State parks may offer cabin rentals, in case you don't have access to a tent. Take some time away from the park to enjoy local offerings, such as a farmer's market or local museum. Grab a few of your favorite foods from the farmer's market, take a hike in the park and end your hike with a makeshift picnic.

    Stick Close to Home

    • Plan a one-night vacation and visit a place nearby for a cheap couple's vacation. Check independent motels and bed and breakfast hotels or boutique hotels. These typically offer lower rates during the middle of the week, when the hotels see fewer travelers.

For a weekend vacation, book two nights at the hotel and pretend that you're travelers to your own city. Take in all the tourist attractions, including those you haven't visited in awhile and those you've never seen, including museums, parks, flea markets, antique shops and fairs. Expand your horizons by playing tourist in a town close by while you save money on gas and transportation.

    Amusement Fun

    • Amusement parks are generally a little expensive, but you might be surprised at the discounts available. Check into season passes for nearby amusement parks. Early in the season, it's possible to buy a cheap season pass that pays for itself in two or three visits. If you stay at a nearby hotel, you may even have the chance to purchase discounted tickets for the park.

Save money on food costs by packing your own picnic lunch and eating outside the park, instead of paying for the expensive food inside. Bring a disposable camera or digital camera and capture pictures of each other on your favorite rides.
