The Orlando Tourist Information Bureau estimates that more than 50 million tourists visit Orlando each year. Orlando has gained popularity as a vacation spot because of its beautiful beaches and variety of attractions. Most people think of Disney World or Sea World when considering things to do in Orlando. However, the city offers other options for family fun, many of which are much cheaper.
  1. Central Florida Zoo

    • The Central Florida Zoo, located about 22 miles from Orlando, features over 400 animals and maintains a botanical garden and an insect zoo. The zoo also operates a splash playground to keep children cool during the hot summer months. On the weekends, the zoo presents educational presentations for visitors. The zoo operates daily from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, and charges a reasonable admission price for children and adults.

    Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf

    • Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf offers a mini-golf course with a pirate theme. The course features waterfalls, sunken ships and pirate dungeons. Pirate's Cove operates every day from 9:00 am until 11:30 pm.

    Orlando Science Center

    • The Orlando Science Museum features many exhibits including medical technology, career exploration, dinosaur skeletons and hands-on ecosystem exhibits. The museum offers an interactive science park, transportation simulators, special exhibits for young children and an observatory for watching planets and far-away galaxies. The museum operates from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Sunday through Friday, and from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm on Saturdays. It does not charge admission for children two or younger, though older children and adults must pay a moderate admission price.

    Monkey Joe's

    • Monkey Joe's offers a large indoor playground with blow-up slides and jumpers.

      Monkey Joe's charges very reasonable prices for children and allows parents to accompany their children for free. It operates from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm on Monday through Saturday and from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm on Sundays.

    World's Largest McDonald's Playplace

    • The McDonald's on Sand Lake Road in Orlando, Florida features the largest play-place in the world. It includes a tree house play area, a toddler area and over 100 arcade games. The restaurant also has an indoor waterfall and fish aquarium. Menu options go beyond the traditional Big Macs and include items such as paninis, pasta and gourmet desserts. This McDonald's operates 24 hours per day. While it does not charge an admission price, it does charge for the arcade games.
