  1. Boston Children's Museum

    • Boston Children's Museum, the second oldest museum in the nation, offers a full day of exciting activities for both children and adults to enjoy. Explore a variety of hands-on exhibits designed to teach people about the arts, culture, science, health and fitness, and environmental awareness. Some popular exhibits include Arthur & Friends, Johnny's Workbench, and Science Playground. The museum also offers a Museum Shop and a Recycle Shop, where children and adults can fill bags with reusable fabrics, strings, and papers for creating their own exhibits and arts and crafts at home. Parents will also appreciate the museum's lunchroom, where they can feed children away from the priceless exhibits. Events and parties can be booked at the museum. As of October, 2010, admission to the museum is free for members and $12 for adults and children over 12 months old. Special admission is offered Saturday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for $6 per person and Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for $1 per person.

    Newbury Fine Arts

    • Check out paintings by artist and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and over a dozen other artists at Newbury Fine Arts, which showcases more than 15 art galleries and exhibits and holds private artist receptions. As of October, 2010, admission into Newbury Fine Arts is free Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

    Freedom Trail

    • Take a walking or trolley tour along Freedom Trail to experience a taste of Boston's history. Freedom Trail, which begins at Boston Common and ends at the Bunker Hill Monument, is a two and a half mile look at 16 historical sites and two and a half centuries worth of history. After the tour is over, if you don't mind climbing 294 steps, experience the views of the Boston skyline from atop the Bunker Hill Monument. Just across the street from the Monument is the Battle of Bunker Hill Museum, home to historical exhibits. Adults and children five and up are allowed on this tour. Admission is free, as of October 2010.

    • Visit the Main Streets shopping districts to check out any of the 2,000 unique shops and businesses in the neighborhood.
