Cheap Things to Do in Cleveland

Cleveland provides its visitors with a number of attractions such as the world-famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Lake Erie, as well as nationally recognized sports teams in football, basketball and baseball. However, for the budget-conscious traveler, the city also features a number of free or very inexpensive attractions.
  1. The Cleveland Museum of Art

    • The Cleveland Museum of Art features a wide variety of collections including contemporary art, modern European paintings, European painting from 1500 to 1800 and American paintings. The collection also includes photography, prints, textiles, Islamic art, sculpture and African art. The museum has featured collections including Native American art, jewelry and local photography. Guests pay no charge to view the permanent collections, although some exhibitions require a small fee. The museum opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The museum is open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. The museum is closed on Mondays.

    The Cleveland Cultural Gardens

    • Perfect for sunny day, a walk through the Cleveland Cultural Gardens is free. The grounds feature over 30 gardens designed and dedicated to various immigrant cultures such as Croatian, Latvian, Greek, Irish and Serbian. Each garden includes plant life, sculpture and other artistic monuments to each culture. The Italian Garden, built in the early 1930s, features sculpture, a fountain and stone medallions bearing the names of famous Italians like Guglielmo Marconi, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The area is also used for weddings and photographic sessions. The gardens close at sundown every day.

    NASA Glenn Research Center

    • NASA's Glenn Research Center attracts visitors who have an interest in the U.S. space program. Although the majority of the center is off-limits to visitors, the center does offer free tours for visitors on the second and fourth Saturdays in July and September, and on the first and third Saturdays every other month. The tours last a little under an hour and start at 10:30 a.m. with additional tours at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Each day, tours focus on a different area of the center, from the Zero-gravity Locomotion Simulator to the Abe Silverstein Supersonic Wind Tunnel. The center requires all visitors make tour reservation at least one day in advance.
