Negril's rugged terrain and cliffs coupled with the miles of pristine white sand beaches makes for a contrast that isn’t seen anywhere else on the island. The hippies and surfers kept Engrail a secret, but over the years this secret leaked out. Aside from the Negril’s astounding natural beauty there is an active nightlife many restaurants and cheap hotels nearby to enjoy it all.
Kuyaba is the Arawak word meaning “a paradise for eating drinking and feasting.” Back when Negril was a sleepy little seaside town, this hotel was open with simple thatch roof huts. Now Kuyaba still has the same personal touch intact from when it opened in the 1960s. Kuyaba has two types of cabins; both are steps away from the beach and come with porches, ceiling fans and air-conditioning. The larger cabin has a kitchenette and sitting room which can be easily transformed into sleeping quarters.
Although Negril has many dining options, dining at Kuyaba is a welcome departure from bad hotel food. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with local Jamaican meals and dishes prepared with locally grown ingredients. Enjoy the traditional ackee and saltfish breakfast with fried Johnny cakes or a Western-style omelet. Lunch and dinner offers the bounties of the sea with lobster in garlic sauce or curry shrimp.
