Cheap Warm Vacation Ideas

Visits to warm vacation spots don't have to cost exorbitant amounts of money. For much of the year, a memorable vacation is within driving distance for most families. You can cut down on expenses by avoiding expensive resorts and heading out into nature. You might also find great deals on warm locations during off-peak times and seasons.

  1. Waterfalls and Hot springs

    • Many vacationers make use of the national system of trailheads and protected lands available throughout the United States. Trails.com maintains a list of these trails, searchable by state and amenities. People living in the western United States can find hot springs nearby, and during all but the winter months, there are camping spots near waterfalls hidden throughout the eastern United States. Rent an RV to travel to many of these locations, or simply take your car, gear and a tent if you prefer a more rustic setting.

    Southern Secrets

    • During the winter months when the northern states are snow-covered and frosty, you might want to visit the southern United States. Though locations such as Florida see peak travel and high rates at these times, lesser-known vacation spots have all the warmth with none of the crowds. Take your family to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, or to visit Tybee Island off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. Daytona Beach and Orlando in Florida are sure to be busy, but the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama are far less crowded and more secluded. For a more adventurous time, try driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and visiting the famous Tennessee Aquarium, Memphis, Graceland or Dollywood.

    Off-Season Hot spots

    • Great deals can be found in the fall and spring at destinations that are just too warm and popular to be missed. Mexico's beach resorts tend to slow down at these times as students return to school and storms drift through the areas. Florida and Hawaii vacation spots regularly offer specials aimed at mature couples or retirees during this time, and niche markets such as alternative-lifestyle vacations also see great deals. Avoid spring break travel, though, when college students flock to these locations. Spring break rates and crowds typically happen within two weeks of the Easter holiday.
