How to Find Cheap Campgrounds

Campground fees can take a chunk out of your camping budget. There are some ways to cut costs, like joining a club that offers discounts. Some promise 50 percent savings if you pay a yearly fee. If you're looking for cheap camp sites without paying any club fee, start with a website that specializes in free camp information.

Instructions

    • 1

Call up a website like Free campgrounds, which is set up by and for RVers.

    • 2

      Click on the national map.

    • 3

Click on a state. The site will produce a list of all camp sites in that state accepting campers. For example, a click on Missouri in 2011 returned 48 results. Each result showed the nearest town and the cost. The only sites listed either were free or cost $10 or less.

Read the comments from visitors about each site. Each listing shows the date the camp description was added, but the comments can show updates and details about the camp conditions. For example, a reader in 2010 noted that the free campground near Hannibal, Missouri was free for 14 days in a 30-day period.
