How To Camp With an RV on the Beach in Northern Califorina

The Northern California coastline stretches from the area north of the San Francisco Bay and ends at the southern border of Oregon. Commonly known as the "NorCal coastline," this region consists of the following counties: Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte. With the exception of Mendocino County, each of the regions contains an RV-friendly campground that belongs to the California State Parks system. To camp on the beach in Northern California with an RV, you will need to contact each park individually and pay a corresponding campground fee.

      Go to the Sonoma Coast State Park website to book an online reservation to camp on the beach in Sonoma County. Check for availability before making your reservation. You may also call the park directly at 707-875-3483 or pay for registration upon entrance into the park. The Sonoma Coast State Park is equipped with an RV dump station, and campgrounds costs $25 to $45 a night, as of 2011, depending on the location. Maximum camper length admitted into the park is 31 feet.

      Visit the Caspar Beach RV Park and Campground website to make a reservation to camp with your RV in Mendocino County. If you have any special requests or need a reservation for longer than 14 days, you may call the park at 707-964-3306. Choose your RV hookup option, either full hookup ranging from $38 to $45 or partial hookup at $35. Full hookup service includes water, electricity, sewer and cable TV while partial hookup includes water, electricity and sewer.

      Go online to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park website to arrange your stay in Humboldt County. Make your reservation online through the website or call 707-946-2409. Check for availability, as several of the campsites are closed seasonally. Maximum camper length permitted is 31 feet, and RV hookups and dump stations are not available. Prepare yourself for heavy rain, as 100-inch annual rainfall is common in the area.

      Visit the Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park page to make your reservation to camp in Del Norte County. You may enter the park with a camper up to 31 feet. An RV dump station is available, but hookups are not provided. The park is open seasonally, from May 1 to Sept. 30, so plan accordingly when making reservations. Call the park at 707-465-2146 to find out the cost of a campsite.
