Places to Ride Go Karts in Alabama

Alabama is in the southeastern United States and provides chances for go kart racing on dirt tracks and paved racecourses. This state also features family recreation centers in its major metropolitan areas, such as Birmingham and Gulf Shores, with go kart tracks. The go kart racing season in Alabama typically runs from March through October, but go kart tracks at recreation centers are usually open year-round.
  1. Penton Go Kart

    • Situated in eastern Alabama, the Penton Go Kart racecourse is a quarter-mile oval track, less than 10 minutes from Lafayette's town center. This go kart track is open from March through October. Children six years and under are allowed to ride on the track for free; all riders under 18 must fill out a parental consent form. The Penton Go Kart track hosts racing events throughout the year. Children races are divided into age divisions, which ensures they will be racing against children their own age.

    Trussville Playstation

    • Trussville Playstation is in Trussville, Alabama, a northeastern suburb in the Greater Birmingham area. This family-oriented recreation center features a half-mile go kart track. Children under seven years old are not allowed on the golf track. The maximum height for children is 46 inches to ride "smaller karts," while the required height for riding "larger karts" is 58 inches. Children must be at least 10 years old to ride the larger karts. Double karts are available. In order to drive a double kart with a child, drivers must be 16 years old and have a valid driver's license. Trussville Playstation is open year-round.

    Sunset Raceway

    • The Sunset Raceway is in the northern Alabama town of Baileyton, less than an hour northwest of Gadsden. This go kart track is family-owned and operated. Sunset Raceway's racing season commences in late March and finishes in October; opening and closing times are subject to weather. The racecourse is a quarter-mile oval dirt track. The minimum age for children is five years old. Children ages five through seven race with each other in the Kid Kart Exhibition race. All racing events occur on Saturdays, but is closed holiday weekends.

    The Track

    • The Track, located in Gulf Shores, is less than five minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and features the "Wild Woody" racecourse, a three-story spiraling race track. This family recreation center has two more go kart racecourses, the Track and the Super Track. In order to race on the Track, drivers must be at least 42 inches tall and Wild Woody racecourse drivers must be 50 inches tall. Double-seat karts are available; children who are 36 to 53 inches tall may ride for free in double-seat go karts. Children must be a minimum of four years old.
