What did people do for fun in Massachusetts 1620?

The Puritans who settled Massachusetts in 1620 were a deeply religious people who believed that life was about work and worship. They did not approve of many forms of recreation, seeing them as frivolous and a waste of time. Some of the few activities that were considered acceptable for leisure were reading, fishing, walking, and attending church services. The Puritans also enjoyed singing psalms and playing musical instruments, but only for religious purposes. Any activities with elements of gambling, dancing, or drinking were strongly prohibited.
