Indonesian Visa Rules

Indonesia is one of the largest countries in Asia. It is made up of a number of islands, and includes a financial center in the capital Jakarta and tourist attractions, such as the beaches of Bali and Lombok. People who wish to visit Indonesia must check the visa requirements for their nationality and apply for the appropriate visa, prior to travel to the country.
  1. Passport

    • All people who travel to Indonesia must be have a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date, and proof on onward passage out of the country. Entry to Indonesia must be through one of the air- or seaports.

    No Visa Required

    • Citizens of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Hong Kong Special Administration Region (SAR), Macao Special Administration Region (SAR), Chile, Morocco, Peru, and Vietnam do not require a visa to enter Indonesia.

    Visa on Arrival

    • A visa on arrival is issued at an Indonesian airport or seaport. It can be valid for three or 30 days, and cannot be converted to any other visa type, nor can it be extended. The 30-day period includes the arrival day and departure day. This is available to citizens of the United States, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Norway, France, Poland, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Taiwan.

    Tourist Visa

    • A tourist visa is valid for 60 day and is nonextendable. Employment is forbidden under a tourist visa.

    Social Visa

    • Social visas are issued for social, cultural, religious or medical visits to Indonesia. This includes exchange visits between sports or academic organizations, and family visits. This visa is valid for 60 days, and can be extended to up to six months. The applicant must provide a letter from an Indonesian sponsor with this application, which can be obtained only from outside Indonesia.

    Business Visa

    • Business visas are multiple entry, are valid for 60 days, and can be extended for up to 12 months. This visa allows the individual to partake in business activities in Indonesia, without taking up employment or receiving money for services in Indonesia. It is valid only for temporary business assignments and emergency work, plus attending seminars and conferences.

    Overstay

    • Overstay of the visa is charged at US$20 per day. Visitors who overstay by more than 60 days risk heavy fines and/or imprisonment.
