Anyone who wants to move to Australia with a work visa needs to pass the visa points system. Age, education, job skills, English-language proficiency and personal ties to Australia are worth points. Points must total 100 to 120 to qualify for a work visa. (See Reference 1) Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship states that those who fail by only a few points must wait in a reserve pool until Australia needs their skills or changes the visa rules. (See Reference 1)
All visa applicants must prove they are of good character by signing the visa application's Australian Values Statement, which is a promise that they will obey Australian law. (See Reference 2) After receiving applications, the Australian government will prompt some applicants to undergo a criminal history record check. (See References 3 and 4) If applicants have lived in another country for at least a year, they must also provide police certificates from these locations, according to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. (See Reference 4)
Australia has health requirements to ease the burden on its health care system and ensure that all visitors and residents remain safe. Visitors must have a health examination if they are likely to enter a classroom or hospital or if they have a health condition. (See Reference 5) Those planning on moving to Australia must arrange an examination by a doctor the Australian government has approved, but only when the government prompts them to. (See Reference 5) Student visa holders must have Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of their stay in Australia. (See Resource 2)
