Visa Rules in Dubai

Knowing the rules of any country before you go is an important part of international travel. United Arab Emirates (UAE) offers several types of visas that vary in cost and requirements for obtaining them. Most require that the person just show up to the UAE with cash in hand and leave by the visa expiration date.
  1. Visit Visas

    • Stay a short while.

Dubai currently offers only a one-month visa to visitors from 33 different countries who used to be allowed three months in-country before the new rule in 2003. This visa can be obtained once you land in Dubai and costs Dh100. Make sure to have enough money with you in cash whether you enter the United Arab Emirates via plane, train, boat or automobile. For a complete list of countries allowed this visit visa, visit the UAE website.

    UK Visit Visas

    • Exceptional Brits.

Persons with citizenship or right of abode in the United Kingdom receive a free 30-day stamp in their passports, which actually allows the holder 60 days in country when entering the UAE. A 30-day extension is available for a charge of Dh500.

    96-Hour Transit Visa

    • Just passing through.

If you get stuck in UAE due to flight issues, United Arab Emirates requires you to have a transit visa, which lasts for only 96 hours. These transit visas are only available through the airline you came in on, and proof of future departure is required to obtain one.

    Multiple Entry Visa

    • Stamps Everywhere.

Obtain a multiple entry visa by first traveling to Dubai and purchasing a visitor visa. Once in Dubai, you must prove you have a relationship with a reputable business (sponsor). You can then apply for a multiple entry visa and pay the Dh1,000 fee. This visa is valid for only six months at a time and is useful for persons doing business frequently in the UAE. U.S. citizens can apply for a longer term multiple entry visa, which can be issued for any length between one and 10 years and is free of all charge. A UAE sponsor is still required.
