What attracted colonists to Jamestown?

The Virginia Company of London was responsible for establishing Jamestown. The company recruited colonists by promising them land, riches, and the chance to spread the Protestant faith. The colonists hoped to find gold, silver, and other valuable minerals in the New World. They also hoped to establish a permanent settlement in America and to convert the native people to Christianity.
