When did explorers come to Texas?

Spanish explorers were the first Europeans to arrive in Texas in the early 16th century. The Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda was the first European to map the Texas coastline in 1519. In 1528, the Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was shipwrecked on the Texas coast and spent several years exploring the region. In 1541, the Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado led an expedition into Texas in search of the Seven Cities of Gold, but he failed to find them.
