"History" Has No Acronym—It's Greek for "Inquiry"

The word history has no "full form" or acronym. It derives from the Ancient Greek ἱστορία (historía), meaning "inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation". Herodotus (c. 484–425 BCE) used it for his seminal work The Histories—the first systematic investigation of past events. The term entered Latin as historia, then Old French estoire, and Middle English historie before settling as "history" in modern English.
