Things to Do Near Warner Robins, Georgia

Warner Robins, Georgia, in Houston County, is about 100 miles south of Atlanta. Several country clubs and a public course offer 18-hole golf courses. The Robins Air Force Base dominates the local economy. Residents of both the air force base and Warner Robins, as well as tourists, head to Macon about 10 minutes away for entertainment.
  1. Museum of Aviation

    • The free Museum of Aviation, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., has over 100 aircraft, missiles and cockpits, from 1896 to the present. The museum, on Robins Air Force Base, has exhibits about aviation from World War II and on. The Transporter motion simulator ride offers twelve different ride experiences including man's first walk on the moon, a volcano mine ride and swimming with dolphins. Learn about the Tuskegee Airmen, the invasion of Normandy and the Air Force Flying Tigers. The museum has a picnic area and a cafe.

    Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Museum

    • The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Museum, the largest state sports museum in the country, has exhibits on high school, collegiate, professional and Olympic sports in Georgia. Housed in a recreated turn of the century ballpark, the museum has thousands of artifacts in sports as diverse as high school football and ballroom dancing. The exhibit "The Art of Jack Davis" by the Mad Magazine cartoonist examines the lighter side of sports, while Super Men: Georgia Football Greats in the NFL's Biggest Game has football equipment from Georgia NFL players.

    Barksdale Bobwhite Plantation

    • The Barksdale Bobwhite Plantation, nearby in Cochran, has quail hunting from October 1 to March 31. The rest of the year, the plantation offers guided hunts, skeet and clay shooting, and deer, turkey, chukar and pheasant hunting. The plantation offers lodging for hard-core hunters.

    Georgia Children's Museum

    • The interactive Georgia Children's Museum has five floors of hands-on activities for children ages two to 12. The Little Learners Loft, for ages two to five has dress-up and a puppet theater. At the WGCM Studio, kids can put on news shows and an Arts & Crafts Corner lets kids create and take home a craft. As of 2011, the museum offers free admission to local residents on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and free admission to everyone on the first Friday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
