Little Ferry, New Jersey, is a small city in the northeast of New Jersey, just outside of Manhattan. Though it is small in area, it has a variety of restaurants and is especially well known for a few of its Japanese restaurants.   1. Mt. Fuji Restaurant

    • Though it is not located in Little Ferry proper, Mt. Fuji restaurant is worth driving two miles outside the city limits. The restaurant prides itself on its hibachi dishes, but it also features a large and varied sushi menu. Mt. Fuji is open Monday through Friday for both lunch and dinner, and is open only for dinner on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The taste of the food isn't the only attraction at this restaurant, though, as the presentation of the food is quite the sight to behold. A master chef prepares and presents the hibachi dishes at your table in a display that includes flames, knives, and of course, the food itself. Diners can enjoy a full meal that starts with a sushi appetizer. Popular choices for a sushi appetizer include American rolls and Wasabi rolls. There are Makimono sushi available as well, which is available in single pieces such as flounder or squid. Sushi and sashimi are also available as main entrees as platters that include sides such as a salad, an appetizer, rice, soup and green tea. Steaks, chicken and a salad bar are also available. For beverages, Mt. Fuji has a full selection of cocktails and beer.

    Nizi Sushi

    • Nizi translates as rainbow in English. The restaurant is located just outside of Little Ferry and is open for both lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. The menu at Nizi is not limited to Japanese cuisine. Diners can enjoy Korean dishes for their entrée as well as a full sushi, roll and sashimi menu. Sushi and sashimi is available a la carte or as a combination platter. Popular choices include shrimp, tamago and yellowtail. The Korean cuisine available includes yoo ke jang, which is a a spicy beef soup that also has vegetables and scallions. There are also Donburi bowl dishes available. Options for these bowls include eel over rice and a spicy sashimi salad that is known as chirashi. Nizi does not have its own liquor license, but diners are invited to bring their own alcohol to enjoy with their meal.

    Minado Restaurant

    • Minado is primarily a seafood buffet restaurant. It offers selections of more than 30 different varieties of sushi and sashimi. The food at Minado is well-known for being made with the freshest ingredients available. The sushi and sashimi are not the only options on the menu, however. Hot Japanese dishes such as tempura, chicken teriyaki, gyoza dumplings, udon noodles and yakisoba are available. Gourmet salads are one of the fresh offerings at Minado, but it is perhaps best known for the variety of seafood available. Jumbo shrimp, many options of baked fish, oysters and Alaskan snow crab legs are on the menu. Food is not the only reason people go to Minado - their beverage selection is excellent and so is their dessert menu. Seasonal fruits, crepes and green tea cheesecake are popular choices. Minado is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner, though they only take reservations if a group is larger than 10 people.
