“FILTER Magazine” started the Culture Collide Festival in 2010 with the goal of bringing musical talent from around the globe to be showcased along with artists from the United States. A limited number of tickets are available for individual shows. Your best bet is to purchase a wristband via Ticketfly, which gives you entrance to all of the festival's general shows. Early bird pricing is often available to festival-goers who purchase their wristbands early. You can choose from self-parking or valet parking at various lots around the neighborhood.
You can leave your passport at home while being transported around the world with musicians playing psychedelic dance music from Australia, indie rock from Chile or rap music from Senegal. All of the festival’s stages are within walking distance from one another in venues located throughout the neighborhood. In the past, venues have included 826 LA, Origami Vinyl, The Echo and Taix on Sunset Boulevard. In addition to performers from the United States, musicians from various countries perform at the festival, hailing from countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Egypt, France, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Although music is the festival's main focus, there are plenty of other things to keep you busy and entertained, including comedy shows and daily happy hours that feature country-specific themes, including film screenings, beer specials and acoustic musical performances. If you get hungry while you're rocking out, there are a variety of options. Festival organizers arrange a select number of food trucks to be on-site, serving up everything from tacos to dim sum. Additionally, local restaurants and retailers offer special deals and discounts during the festival.
Unless you're a local, you'll most likely need a hotel for the weekend. Some of the nearest hotels include Super 8 Los Angeles Downtown, Knights Inn Los Angeles Central and Comfort Inn. Super 8 Los Angeles Downtown is located on Sunset Boulevard, right off of Highway 101, and offers a free breakfast and parking. A stay at Knights Inn Los Angeles Central also includes free parking and a continental breakfast. It is about one mile from downtown and within walking distance to restaurants. Comfort Inn, located on Sunset Boulevard, features guest laundry facilities, free weekday newspapers and a free continental breakfast buffet.
