Maine Lobster Festival

The five-day Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, Maine served up more than 20,000 pounds of lobster in 2010. In addition to enjoying this seafood delicacy, visitors can participate in a range of activities during the annual festival.

  1. Food

    • Although lobster is the main focus of the festival, visitors can enjoy other seafood items like steamed and fried clams, fried Maine shrimp, shrimp cocktail and steamed mussels. The Main Eating Tent serves up lobster dinners, and lobster enthusiasts can check out the Maine Lobster Festival Seafood Cooking Contest.

    Activities

    • Visitors at the Maine Lobster Festival can learn plenty about this crustacean. The Marine Tent showcases underwater creatures found in Maine's gulf. The Big Parade, which drew 25,000 spectators in 2010, includes lobster-themed floats as well as local bands and drill teams.

    Races

    • The Maine Lobster Festival offers races for runners of all ages. The Lobster Crate Race challenges participants to run across 50 partially submerged lobster crates or risk falling into the Atlantic Ocean. Adults can participate in the 10K road race through Rockland and Rockport, and kids can sign up for a 1-mile fun run.
