Vacation destinations that combine tennis with a spa often include lessons, clinics and the chance to play tennis with resident pros. Some resorts also offer tennis and golf packages with spa services. Many of the top tennis resorts are located in scenic areas.

    • Enchantment Resort in Sedona sits on 70 acres of Arizona's red rock country. The resort offers six Plexipave hard surface tennis courts, clinics, lessons, casual play, tournaments and the chance to play with staff pros. The Enchantment spa includes an indoor swimming pool with a fireplace, a sauna, a steam bath, a whirlpool and an outdoor lap pool. Spa services include massages, meditation, skin care and body treatments. Hotel guests can also hike some of the many trails in Sedona or take a scenic drive north on Highway 89A into Oak Creek Canyon and Flagstaff.

    Kiawah Island Golf Resort

    • Kiawah Island lies just south of Charleston, South Carolina. The Kiawah Island Golf Resort is one of the premier tennis spas in the U.S. The resort offers lessons for beginning to advanced players and unlimited, discounted access to its 28 tennis courts for practice drills and daily clinics. The court surfaces vary. Spa services include body wraps with botanicals and mineral-rich mud, steam rooms and saunas. Kiawah Island is also home to bobcats, alligators, white-tail deer and gray foxes. Hotel guests can bicycle, hike, observe wildlife or spend time at the beach.

    Topnotch Resort and Spa

    • The Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe, Vermont is open all year long, although the outdoor tennis courts close from Oct. 15 to May 15. Four indoor courts are available in the off-season and visitors can play tennis, take lessons and attend clinics during the winter. Guests can get tennis lessons or a game recorded all year on a CD, with audio of the tennis staff's analysis and suggestions. The resort's spa encompasses 35,000 square feet. Guests can choose from 120 different spa treatments throughout the year. Stowe, Vermont is famous for winter skiing and hiking, and swimming and bicycling in the summer.

    Four Seasons Resort and Club

    • The Four Seasons Resort and Club is located in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas-Fort Worth. The Four Seasons has a total of 40 indoor and outdoor courts. Play starts as early as 6 a.m. and goes till 9 p.m. on a variety of surfaces. Guests can take lessons or receive instruction from a staff pro. Spa services include in-room massages, an outdoor spa pool and separate whirlpool, sauna, steam room and a cold plunge pool for each gender. A number of upscale shopping malls are within a 20-minute drive of the hotel.
