Guided Tours in North Carolina

North Carolina, located on the eastern edge of the U.S., is home to the Black Mountains and sections of the Appalachian Mountains. Some of the more populated cities, such as Charlotte and Asheville, provide interactive tours where you can learn about the city and sights. Some tours, such as Segway tours, have enforced age requirements and sometimes even weight requirements.
  1. Charlotte NC Tours

    • Charlotte NC Tours offers a one-hour up to a two-hour Segway tour of Charlotte. The two-hour Oak Trees, Street Cars and Colonial Revival Tour travels past the NASCAR Hall of Fame and visits the South End district, where industrialization first began in Charlotte. Highlights include visiting the neighborhood of Myers Park to view the Colonial Revival style of architecture. Riders must be 18 years old, or a parent be present for riders between the ages of 14 and 17. Weight requirements are a minimum of 100 pounds and a maximum of 260 pounds per person. The tour beings with a 20-minute training session on the Segway vehicles, and all equipment is provided by the company.

    Asheville Ghost Tours

    • Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Gray Line Red Trolley offers a Haunted History and Murder Mystery Ghost Tour throughout the city of Asheville. This 75-minute tour departs from Pack's Tavern on South Spruce Street and travels by trolley to sights where murders and ghost sightings have taken place, such as the Grove Park Inn and the White Gate Inn. During the tour you'll learn about the 1906 Asheville killing spree and hear secrets and stories dating back to the Civil War time period. This tour is available May through October and is held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Reservations are required for this tour.

    Carolina Outfitters Train Tours

    • Carolina Outfitters provides nine different train tours that depart from Bryson City. The 4.5-hour Nantahala Gorge Excursion travels approximately 44 miles, crossing over the 800-foot-long Trestle Bridge that towers 100 feet above Fontana Lake. This tour travels along western North Carolina for up-close views of the Nantahala Gorge and the mountains. The company provides one hour of free time at the gorge for shopping, a whitewater rafting excursion and sightseeing opportunities. If you're interested in whitewater rafting, the company can book the rafting tour for you with advanced notification. The tour ends at the Bryson City depot.
