Fort Bragg and Willits, California, are the two departure train stations from where the Skunk Train takes its passengers on a beautiful scenic train trip by the Noyo River and through the Pudding Creek estuary as well as the entire Redwood Route. Passengers can enjoy the natural views of all the wildlife along the journey as well as witness the open beauty of California's scenery. The Skunk Train has travelled the same four-hour round trip since 1885. Prices are $47 per adult and $22 per child, for the full tour, as of 2010.
The trip is pet-friendly but pet policies in place include dogs being required to wear soft muzzles for the duration of the trip because animals become nervous with the different noises experienced on this old train. The Blue Goose Steam Excursion Train trip takes passengers for a ride over Butcher Hill in Yreka and through the picturesque Shasta Valley as well as the Shasta River and Montague. The seven-and-a-half-mile journey lasts three and a half hours, including a 90 minute stop in the old town of Montague. During the stop, passengers can stroll around the historic town or enjoy lunch at a nearby cafe, before returning to Yreka. The Yreka Western Railroad company ask that all pets remain on a leash and be kept out of the isle throughout the journey. Open from Memorial Day Weekend until the end of October, prices for the train journey start from $20 for adult and $12 for children, riding in coach, as of 2010.
The Redwood Valley Railway is located in Berkeley, California. This train trip is a short but enjoyable experience for all passengers. Lasting approximately 12 minutes the journey begins from the Redwood Valley railway and travels around Tilden Park, before returning to the valley railway. The ride allows views over the valley and Tilden Bay.
The Redwood Valley Railway is open every weekend and on holidays, all year round from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and single ride train tickets only cost $2 per person, as of 2010. This train journey welcomes pets and dogs, which must be on a leash, travel free.
