• Deep in New York's Adirondack Mountains, hunters can choose from trips geared toward a prey of preference--turkeys, black bears, deer or coyotes. You can also take a bowhunting excursion. Travel between camps by boat while hunting bears that can weigh as much as 500 pounds. C.P.'s doesn't use bait or hounds. Hunters traveling with company have reported catching deer that weigh 300 pounds. Turkeys weigh an average of 18 to 25 pounds. Several trips, including the black bear hunt, include sleeping accommodations at a bed and breakfast and a picnic lunch while hunting. Trips typically last three or four days and the price includes use of a rifle or bow.

BuckLore Hunting Adventures

• BuckLore Hunting Adventures offers hunting excursions in New York's Adirondack Mountains. Choose from among whitetail deer hunts, a deer and black bear combination trip or a deer and goose excursion. Starting in May, you can also book a turkey hunting trip. Hunters might also try a small game trip where you shoot squirrels and showshoe hares. BuckLore says hunters sometimes encounters bobcats and coyotes in the woods. The company takes hunters on privately owned or leased land. You might trek through swamps, walk through agriculture fields or wander through forests while chasing game.

Lucky Star Ranch

• Tucked away in upstate New York's Thousand Islands Region, hunters will find Lucky Star Ranch, a 2,000-acre private estate with bush, open fields and a rare type of grasslands. Lucky Star uses no pesticides, which it believes helps resident deer and turkeys flourish. For accommodations, you might retreat into the log cabin with lake views. Inside, you'll find two queen-sized beds and a couch. The Lucky Star Lodge has three bedrooms with individual bathrooms. Guests can also enjoy a living room and kitchen with wood stove and television.
