Pilsen Mural Tours

The Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois, is one of the largest Mexican and Mexican-American communities in the United States. The area is known for great shopping, restaurants and museums, including the National Museum of Mexican Art, the largest Latino museum in the country. Large displays of public art---murals such as those featuring the Virgin of Guadalupe and farm advocate Dolores Huerta---are prominent in Pilsen. Visitors can arrange special excursions to learn more about the art of the neighborhood.

    • Local artist Jose Guerrero leads a one hour 30 minute tour of the Pilsen murals. Participants learn about the local culture as they view murals on the Cooper Dual Language Academy and other buildings. Reservations are required and visitors should call ahead.

    Chicago Neighborhood Tours

    • Downtown Chicago

      During the summer, Chicago offers neighborhood tours of Pilsen and Little Village. Tour guides share information on the Bohemian roots of Pilsen and how it became a Mexican and Mexican-American Community. Reservations must be made in advance.

    Chicago Architecture Foundation

    • The Chicago Architecture Foundation gives a variety of neighborhood tours, one of which includes the murals of Pilsen. Architects, developers and contractors lead many of the tours. The Pilsen mural tour is only available to foundation members, but anyone can join the foundation. Tours are added on a regular basis.
