Palm Beach Area Pet Friendly Restaurants

One of the biggest hassles while traveling with a pet, aside from finding welcoming accommodation, is locating a place to eat that allows dogs. The state of Florida made the search easier in May 2009 by making the "Doggie Dining Law" permanent. The bill, originally signed in 2006 by Gov. Jeb Bush, lets any restaurant permit dogs in outside dining areas and forbids discrimination by breed. Because of the legislation, several restaurants in Palm Beach are now dog friendly.
  1. Spoto's Oyster Bar & Blue Point Lounge

    • While Spoto's food--an extensive collection of anything found under a shell served with a sharp eye for decoration--garners rave reviews, the setting leaves much to be desired. The light pink, tall and boxy Spoto's could easily pass for a community center from the outside, and the interior is akin to a poorly arranged Denny's, with small flower-print booths packed so close together you could eat off the plate of your neighbor. But the palm-lined, courtyard dining area is open and simple, and if your dog is in tow, you'll never have to step foot inside the door. According to a post on Waymarking, the servers of Spoto's took care of the dogs even before serving their owners, providing a water bowl and dog treats from the dog bakery next door. Spoto's is located in Palm Beach Garden; the old location in West Palm Beach is closed.

    Vic and Angelo's

    • The almost kitschy Vic and Angelo's has received a lot of press about their Italian eatery, and all of it speaks highly of their food--highly inventive Italian selections made with ingredients fresh off the farm. The outside dining area is sharp and trendy, with orange and white umbrellas to match the planters full of birds-of-paradise. On some nights, one of the owners might have his moped parked out front to add a little taste of Italy. No matter what kind of pet you're hauling, they'll fit right in. Dogs are provided with a water bowl and politely asked if they would like to order. Sometimes, they can even take a seat at the table--provided there's room.

    • The Rum Shack in downtown Lake Worth, just southwest of Palm Beach, is a neighborhood bar and grill with a restaurant and a 40-foot, indoor tiki hut being used as a bar. Dogs are not only welcome here, sometimes they're made to feel at home with a bowl for water, a bit of food and a seat. The outside area is pretty simple, some stackable tables and chairs set out on the sidewalk, but the Rum Shack is right downtown and gets a lot of passing action, for those in the mood for nightlife. During the day, it's much quieter, and even kid-friendly. If you have both pets and children in tow, the Run Shack--despite its name--is a good option for dining. Kids menus are provided and if you're solo, you can take advantage of the Rum Shack's eight hi-def, big-screen plasma televisions and their subscription to Direct TV's NFL Sunday Ticket. They're open for lunch and dinner with a bar menu available from 10 p.m. until late.
