How to Camp in the Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are a group of islands off the southern tip of Florida, including Key Largo, Marathon, Big Pine Key, Islamorada, the Lower Keys and Key West.       Select a state park. State parks in the Florida Keys offer boat ramps, eco trails, picnic areas, sites for tent and RV camping and full hookup service. Some state parks in the Florida Keys where camping is allowed are John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (floridastateparks.org/pennecamp), Long Key State Park (floridastateparks.org/longkey) and Bahia Honda State Park (floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda).

      Choose a private campground. There are some privately owned campgrounds in the Florida Keys offering campers marina access, swimming pools, beach access and tent and RV camping with utility hookups. Private campgrounds in the Florida Keys include Key Largo Kampground and Marina (keylargokampground.com), Boyd's Key West Campground (boydscampground.com) and KOA Sugarloaf Key (koa.com).

      Make your reservations. When you have decided when you will be visiting the Florida Keys and where you want to camp you will need to call the campground to make your reservations. Some campgrounds will require payment for your stay paid in full at the time of making your reservation, while others may only require a deposit.

      Plan your recreational activities. Make a list of what you want to do while in the Florida Keys, including fishing, diving, sightseeing, bicycling, boating and picnicking. Call and make reservations for any tours and excursions you want to take.
