Raging Bull Roller Coaster Specifications

Rollers coasters have changed since the first roller coaster, which was a 50-degree slide down a lumber chute in seventeenth-centry Russian. Today, roller coasters have twists, turns and high elevations. The Raging Bull roller coaster at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, is one of the highest in the country and offers high-adrenalin experience during its two-minute ride.
  1. General Features

    • The Raging Bull is the world's first hyper-twister style roller coaster, which is a type of ride that includes a height of more than 200 feet, a lift hill and high-banked turns with no inversions. After departing the station, the ride begins with a slow 20-story ascent followed by a 208-foot drop into a tunnel at the base of the hill. The rest of the ride consists of several banked curves to the left and right and low-level "camelback" hills that provide airtime for the passengers. The ride culminates with a short drop followed by a high-banked twist just before arriving back into the station.

    History and Theme

    • Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard of Bolliger & Mabillard Inc., a firm based in Switzerland that specializes in roller coasters, created the Raging Bull. Opened in 1999, the ride is based on a story about an old southwestern town where a ferocious bull once terrified its citizens and forced them to flee to another location. They subsequently built a courtyard and a mission in a new town, and the mission serves as the ride's loading platform. The structure is painted bright yellow and maroon with trains that are black and yellow with "Raging Bull" emblazoned on the front.

    Dimensions

    • The Raging Bull is the longest roller coaster in the park with a length of 5,507 feet and the tallest with a maximum height of 202 feet, which is approximately 20 stories off of the ground. The ride lasts for two minutes and 30 seconds with an initial drop of 208 feet that plunges at a 65-degree angle. Riders reach a top speed of 73 miles per hour, making the park's fastest ride.

    Capacities and Restrictions

    • The Raging Bull operates three trains with nine cars of four passengers each. The roller coaster serves up to 1,560 passengers per hour. The only restriction for riders is that all passengers must be at least 54 inches tall to safely fit into the cushioned seat and under the adjustable lap bar.
