Tips for Riding on Roller Coasters

Roller coasters are perhaps the biggest attraction at theme parks, which compete to have the fastest or highest ride around. Knowing what to expect can help to alleviate any anxiety you may feel when you ride a coaster.
  1. Seating

    • You choice of seating on the roller coaster can change your experience. The front, with generally has longer lines, offers the best view. It give you the feeling of riding by yourself and you can clearly see where you're going on the track. This is generally the smoothest place to ride on the coaster. The back of the coaster train can give you the feeling of going faster than you actually are as you whip across the top of the peaks.

    Fear

    • If you are scared of taking on the big and fast roller coasters, start out small. Ride a slower coaster that doesn't have twists or go upside down. Wooden roller coasters, while sometimes rough, travel a little slower than the newer coasters and they don't go upside down, although they do offer height and speed. Ride with someone you trust and are comfortable with, preferably someone who isn't afraid to ride. Once you conquer these coasters, take on the larger ones.

    Groups

    • If you are at the park in a group and want to ride the same train on the roller coaster, you'll need to determine the number of seats on each row, usually two or four. Pick the rows that you want to ride in and then count the number of people in front of you. Whoever is in the line with the least number of people in front of them will need allow to more people ahead of them. Make sure that you have the same number in front of you so that you are assured to ride the same ride.

    Photos

    • Most parks have installed cameras on certain areas of their roller coaster rides. Many times these are located on drops or twists where they can capture people's reactions to the ride. These photos can be purchased once you exit the roller coaster. If you are unhappy with your photo, take note of where the camera is, ride again, and smile or make a funny face at the camera. Ride until you are happy with your photo.
