Roller Coaster Safety Warnings

Between your hair whipping in the wind and the extreme speeds, riding a roller coaster can be exciting and nerve racking simultaneously. To fully and safely enjoy your ride, follow the precautions and warnings set by the amusement park or fair. The warnings aren't there to hinder your good time but rather to ensure that you have the most enjoyable time possible.
  1. Your Body

    • Respect your body and follow the requirements laid out for the roller coaster that you are attempting to ride. Never ride a roller coaster if you are pregnant or have heart problems. People with high blood pressure are also at risk when riding roller coasters. Alcohol consumption should be saved for after you ride the roller coaster, as alcohol affects every body in a different way. Don't take your chances and ride a roller coaster when you are under the influence.

    Restraints

    • Fasten all safety restraints before the ride starts. Restraints can come in the form of lap bars or just seat belts. Some roller coasters have harnesses or over the shoulder locking devices. Usually a ride attendant checks that every person is fastened into the ride before it starts. However, in the event that you are skipped, you are responsible for your own safety. Make sure that you are at the proper height and weight requirements; the safety features won't be as effective on you if you are too little.

    Behavior

    • Monitor your own behavior. Don't throw items while on the roller coaster. Secure anything such as a cellphone or sandal that could fly away from your body and hit someone. Don't act out to get attention. Don't attempt to stand out of your seat while the roller coaster is moving. Don't push or bother other riders while the ride is moving.

    Supervision

    • In some cases, kids under a certain age, such as 10, are not allowed on roller coasters without a parent. This is usually so the parent is better able to monitor the child's safety and behavior. Some children are well behaved and others are rule breakers. To be safe, ride with your child even if you assume that she will take all of the proper precautions.
