General Amusement Safety Issues

You hear it in the news every so often, someone has been injured or killed on an amusement park ride. It's enough to make some people think twice about riding one. While the unthinkable does happen from time to time, amusement rides are safe overall. Safety practices just need to be followed.
  1. Read the Warnings

    • The most important thing you can do to stay safe at an amusement park is to read the warnings that are posted outside of each ride. They are there to help keep you safe.

    Obey the Rules

    • Don't try to wiggle out of your harness or stick your hands or feet outside of the car. If the attendant warns you to drop a certain behavior, do it.

    Height Requirements

    • Rides have height requirements for a reason. Sticking lifts in your children's shoes or having them wear high heels to be taller is only teaching your children to break rules. Such actions also do nothing to reduce their risk of injury.

    Hair

    • Long hair should be pulled back, especially on a fast ride, to reduce the chances of it getting caught on anything, potentially leading to injury.

    Heat

    • On hot days, make sure your drink plenty of fluids. Take advantage of the park's water fountains.

    Broken

    • If you see something that looks broken or out of place on a ride, call it to the attendant's attention immediately. It's better to have a ride shut down for while than to have someone injured.
