General Rules of Safety When Traveling in Buses or Trains

Traveling by train or by bus can be a way to relax and enjoy the ride while the leaving the responsibility of driving to a trained professional. There are several ways you can make your ride safe and enjoyable.
  1. Train Travel

    • A train can be an inexpensive way to travel across the country.

      Make sure you are aware of your surroundings at all times. Keep all of your personal belongings close to you. Items such as cell phones, laptops, iPods and wallets are easy targets for pickpockets, so it is important to keep these with you. Police and police dogs sometimes ride on trains as an added security measure. It is important you never approach these animals. As with all moving vehicles the safest place is your passenger seat. Although walking around is permitted, it is important to limit it as much as possible.

    Bus Travel

    • Enjoy bus travel for either short or long distance trips.

      To ensure your safety when traveling by bus, all luggage must be properly stored in either an overhead storage or under the seat storage. This will prevent items from being tossed around in case of a sudden stop. Identify the emergency exit closest to your seat in case of an emergency evacuation. Stay seated while the bus is in motion.

    Emergency Preparedness

    • When traveling by train or by bus, keep an emergency first aid case with you. This will be helpful in the event of an emergency. It is also important to keep an extra bottle of water on hand.
