How to Use a Trailer Hay Rack

Primarily used for hauling hay, trailer hay racks can serve other purposes as well. You can use hay racks for bucket, wood shaving or feed storage; bicycle transport; generator placement; and water caddy placement. They can even serve as luggage racks. If you use your trailer for camping, you can store various camping equipment in the hay rack. Depending on the size of the hay rack, they can hold 900 to 2,400 lbs. of weight.

Instructions

Load your cargo onto the hay rack. Hay bales and other items will likely be too heavy for you to simply carry up the ladder to the top of the trailer. In that case, tie a rope to the bale of hay to lift it to the top. A tractor with a front-end bucket could also prove useful in loading those heavy items onto the trailer.

Pack the items into the hay rack. Load hay bales side by side. A second row of bales usually fits over the first. Pack other items in a manner that will make it easy for you to strap them down.

    • 3

Tie down the cargo. In most cases, use bungee cords which fit around a variety of items --- including hay bales. Don't assume that the items can't or won't fall out while you drive. Check to ensure you have tied them down securely.
