Plane Safety Rules

Airplane safety rules and regulations are in place to help keep flyers safe while travelling. Though many of these rules are common sense, it is good to review them just prior to air travel. Adhering to plane safety rules will help you to avoid potentially hazardous situations while in the air.
  1. Obey Posted Signs

    • Many safety hazards can be avoided in-flight by simply obeying the posted signs. Stay in your seat when the fasten seatbelt sign is illuminated. Do not form a line for the lavatory; wait until the lavatory sign is illuminated to show that it is vacant. In the event of an emergency, follow the posted lights and signs to an emergency exit. Take note of the signs posted in the cabin of the airplane upon entering and obey directions at all times while onboard.

    Safety Demonstration

    • Prior to taking off, the flight attendant will give a short safety demonstration. Pay attention to the demonstration. This will help you to be aware of the safety rules of the plane as well as emergency strategies employed by the airline. These safety instructions are also available for review on an easy to read, illustrated card located in every seat-back pocket on the plane.

    Electronics

    • Most electronic devices can be used on a plane once the aircraft reaches cruising altitude, above 10,000 feet. Devices that transmit a signal such as cell phones can only be used in airplane or other non-transmitting mode. Many airlines have recently begun to offer onboard wi-fi services for a small fee. When onboard your computer can only be used in non-transmitting mode or connected to the onboard internet service for safety reasons. Electronic devices that transmit a signal can disrupt the airplane's onboard computers and cause electronic malfunctions, making it imperative that passengers follow the instructions of the flight crew when utilizing personal electronic devices.
