Plane Safety Procedures

Airplanes are ridden by millions of travelers every day. The Federal Aviation Administration makes sure that every airline follows a set of rules known as Federal Aviation Regulations or FARs. FARs are in place to ensure that passengers have a safe flight. FARs are strictly enforced by flight crew on board. In addition to FARs, many airlines also have their own set of safety related rules that must be followed and enforced by crew members.
  1. Safety Briefing

    • Flight attendants are required to provide passengers with a safety briefing before takeoff. Not all aircraft are designed the same so it is important to listen to the flight attendants as they give the safety briefing. The safety briefing informs passengers where exits are located, how to use an oxygen mask and how to evacuate the aircraft in the event of an emergency, in addition to other safety information.

    Fasten Seat Belt

    • One of the most important safety-related rules that must be followed on board an aircraft is the "Fasten Seat Belt" sign. When the Fasten Seat Belt sign is on, you must keep your seat belt fastened to prevent injury during takeoff, landing, taxiing or turbulence.

    Admission to the Flight Deck

    • Another very important safety rule on board any commercial aircraft is that access to the flight deck during flight is only granted to authorized persons. Anyone who tries to access the flight deck who is unauthorized is breaking safety related rules and can be severely punished as it may be classified as an attempted hijacking.
