Here is the relevant law from the Washington Administrative Code:
> (5) No person shall take game animals unless such animals have been killed by them. When a person takes big game animals he shall promptly deliver them to a checking station or report the killing to an enforcement officer. However, it shall be lawful for any person to take possession of a big game animal or game bird that has accidentally been killed by collision with an automobile or train or the killing of which could not have been reasonably prevented by the owner of the automobile or train to the extent and in the manner provided by WAC 220-16-105 through 220-16-120.
