Established in 2003, SAMA Motorcycle Tours takes motorcycle enthusiasts from Pretoria across the country. The tours are characterized by a guide followed by clients on bikes who are in turn followed by a backup vehicle. The backup vehicle carries drinks, first aid kits, luggage, snacks, an extra motorcycle and spare parts. Three types of BMW motorcycles are used: BMW F650GS, BMW R1150GS and the BMW R1200GS. Most tours are on paved roads that hug the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, but off road biking is available. Some tours go from South Africa into the neighboring countries of Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia. Overnight stays are in three and four star rated bed and breakfasts. Clients can expect to travel anywhere between 124 to 280 miles each day. As of July 2010, the daily rate for renting motorbikes ranges from ZAR 880 (USD $114.06) and ZAR 1320 (USD $171.10). A security deposit of ZAR 7000 (USD $907.32) is also required. Additional payment is required for other motorcycle accessories such as helmets and a GPS device.

Created by Greg Patton, Motorcycle Tours South Africa takes motorcycle enthusiasts across South Africa. Based in Durban, the company uses two kinds of BMW motorcycles: the BMW F650GS and the BMW R1200GS. All bicycles are less than one year old. Over a 14 day period, the Durban-Capetown-Durban tour takes participants through the Karoo region, the Garden Route and the Transkei Wild Coast where wild animals can be observed in their natural habitat. The Durban-Sun City-Kruger tour is also 14 days long and takes participants through the capital, Johannesburg, into the Kingdom of Swaziland and returns to Zululand where the legendary Zulu tribe maintain their kingdom. Tourists can also work with the company to design their own unique South African bike tour. All overnight stays are in three and four star rated accommodations.
