Aljunied road is named after which early settler?
Aljunied Road was named after Syed Mohamed bin Syed Abdulrahman Aljunied, a prominent Arab businessman and community leader in Singapore. He was born in 1837 in Palembang, Sumatra, and came to Singapore in 1852. He quickly established himself as a successful businessman, dealing in textiles, spices, and other goods. He also became involved in politics and was a member of the Singapore Legislative Council from 1893 to 1895. He was knighted by the British in 1894 and died in 1909.
