Romantic Winter Trips

Vacations for couples during the winter are all about snuggling out of the cold and enjoying picturesque winter scenes. While active couples may love the winter sports the season brings, vacationing in winter does not have to be about skiing and snowboarding; winter trips can also be about lazy days and cozy meals. Whether you want a romantic winter vacation at home or abroad, there is something to suit all couples' tastes.
  1. Crested Butte

    • Crested Butte, Colorado, is an old-fashioned mining town with stunning mountainous surroundings and a quaint town center. This makes it ideally placed for both thrill-seekers and those who just want to chill out. While active couples can enjoy skiing and mountain hikes, others can make the most of the crisp winter air, postcard perfect surroundings and intimate restaurants.

    Banff

    • Banff, found in the Canadian Rockies, is another snow-filled region in winter perfect for winter sports enthusiasts and couples who love the magic of natural winter scenes. While sporty couples will be in their element on the slopes, less-energetic ones can enjoy Banff's many gourmet restaurants. Every winter, Banff National Park also puts on horse-drawn sleigh rides around Banff and Lake Louise, perfect for couples looking for a romantic experience.

    Lake Placid

    • North of New York state, Lake Placid has hosted two Winter Olympic Games and is a charming small town surrounded by the natural beauty of the lake and mountains. The ideal accommodations for romantic vacationers are the lodges that are plentiful in the area, perfect for intimate evenings by the fire following days spent perusing art galleries and taking strolls overlooking the lake.

    Lake Bled

    • Lake Bled in Slovenia is becoming a hot spot for romantic vacationers. The fairytale-like Bled Castle sits on the banks of the lake and is the image of perfection in winter when the surroundings are dusted with a layer of snow. Couples are also able to visit the castle and bottle up and label their own bottle of wine that has been brewed by the monks on-site. Other romantic activities include a horse-drawn carriage ride around the lake and a hot-air balloon ride over the lake and wintry scenes of Slovenia below.

    Cenarth

    • If you're looking for a really secluded romantic getaway, head to the United Kingdom and to western Wales. A lone log cabin, called Caban Cariad in Welsh, which means "The Love Shack," sits at the edge of the Penlan woods. With its location is in the middle of nowhere and the log fire inside, it makes for a quiet vacation for romantic holidaymakers.

    Marrakech

    • If you would prefer a warmer winter romantic getaway, Marrakech in Morocco is a fantastic choice. The romantic architecture, markets and hidden courtyards make it intriguing, while the tea shops, artisans and restaurants in the backstreets and in the trendy spots mean there is plenty for vacationing couples to take in. The region also enjoys approximately 300 days of sunshine every year and has numerous accommodation options in beautifully finished old buildings adorned with fabrics and cushions.
