Bar Harbor is a quaint resort town on Mount Desert Island, just east of Bangor, Maine. Surrounded by Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor clings to the rocky coast of Maine. Take a private carriage tour following the famous scenic carriage roads engineered by John D. Rockefeller in the park. Stop by Thunder Hole at high tide to hear the thunderous boom made by the surging water. At low tide, walk across the large sand bar to Bar Island and explore the nature trail and enjoy views from the summit. Window shop along the main thoroughfares. Stay in a romantic bed and breakfast inn. If you're in town on the Fourth of July, don't miss the parade.

La Jolla, California, is a jewel of a beach-side city, convenient to everything you'll need. You can walk to cafes, restaurants and the beach. To explore further, grab your car and head north to Torrey Pines Glider Port, where you can watch hang gliders run off the edge of the cliff, lifting off in the updrafts and soaring over the water before returning to earth. Turn south to tour the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Stop for authentic Mexican food at one of 30 Mexican restaurants in the Old Town section of the city. There's plenty for the two of you to do or you can simply relax on the balcony of your hotel and enjoy the ocean breeze.
