Wanderlust World Wanderlust World No one permanently lives on Mont Blanc. As the highest peak in the Alps (4,808 m / 15,774 ft) on the France-Italy border, its extreme altitude and severe weather make permanent habitation impossible.
However, a network of mountain huts (refuges) exists at various elevations, providing temporary shelter for climbers and mountaineers. These are typically staffed during the summer climbing season (June–September) but closed and unoccupied in winter.
Nearby towns like Chamonix (France) and Courmayeur (Italy) serve as bases for ascents.
