States with Regular Winter Snowfall

Snowfall is common and often heavy across the northern tier and mountainous areas of the contiguous United States. Key regions:

Northeast

Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania

Midwest

Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio

Mountain West

Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona (high country), New Mexico (high country)

Pacific Northwest

Washington, Oregon (especially Cascades and eastern slopes)

Southern states rarely see snow except at high elevations or during rare cold snaps. Alaska, of course, has extensive winter snow cover statewide.
