Ski Vacations in North Conway, New Hampshire

Between ski resorts, lodging, dining and off-slope activities, North Conway, New Hampshire, has plenty of options for a memorable ski vacation. Situated in New Hampshire's scenic Mount Washington Valley, North Conway offers a variety of alternatives for different budgets and tastes. Although Cranmore Mountain Resort is the only downhill ski area within the village limits, there are three other ski resorts within 20 miles.
  1. Cranmore Mountain Resort

    • Open since 1937, Cranmore Mountain Resort is a ski resort with history. Its first ski instructors were hired from Austria. Cranmore has seven lifts and 50 trails, including seven glades for skiing among trees. It also has a snow-tubing park serviced by two lifts. Eighty percent of Cranmore's trails are suitable for novice or intermediate skiers and the resort offers lessons to children and adults. Cranmore stays open late for night skiing on Saturdays.

    Attitash Ski Resort

    • About 10 minutes from North Conway, Attitash Ski Resort in Bartlett, New Hampshire, has 11 lifts and 23 miles of trails over two mountains, Attitash and Bear Peak. Arguably more challenging than Cranmore, Attitash has 78 trails, with 33 percent rated "most difficult" and 47 percent rated "more difficult." Attitash offers ski lessons to children and adults of all levels. Skiers can stay slopeside at Attitash's 143-room Grand Summit Hotel.

    Wildcat Mountain

    • About 25 minutes from North Conway, Wildcat Mountain has 225 acres of skiing located directly across from Mount Washington, New England's highest peak. Wildcat's website touts the ski area's "not a condo in sight" atmosphere and its 2.75-mile beginner trail, The Polecat. Wildcat also offers ski lessons for children and adults. The mountain has trails of all difficulties, with 25 percent rated "beginner," 45 percent "intermediate" and 30 percent "expert."

    Black Mountain

    • Also 25 minutes from North Conway, Black Mountain Ski Resort has 44 trails, four lifts and 143 acres of skiing terrain. The mountain faces south, which makes it somewhat sunnier and warmer during New Hampshire winters. Black Mountain's website says that the resort is family-owned and operated and caters its services toward families. Skiers can stay at Whitney's Inn at the base of the mountain.

    Off-Slope
