Haemonchus contortus does cause anaemia in sheep.

Haemonchus contortus infection results in loss of blood as the parasites attach to, cut and feed on the epithelial cells on the mucosa of the abomasum.

- As a result it will leads to blood in the gut of the host.

There will be depletion of iron reserves eventually causing microcytic, hypochromic anaemia that manifest in paleness of the conjunctiva and mucosa of the mouth.
