Five Indians Who Climbed Mount Everest

Tenzing Norgay (1953): Along with Edmund Hillary, achieved the historic first summit on May 29, 1953. Born in Darjeeling, Sherpa ethnic group; widely regarded as one of the greatest mountaineers.
Rajeev Raghavan (1995): First visually impaired Indian to summit Everest. Born in Nagpur, lost eyesight to cancer at 21; also scaled Mount Kenya and Mount Elbrus.
Bachendri Pal (1984): First Indian woman to summit Everest (May 23, 1984). Born in Uttarakhand; also climbed Nanda Devi and Kilimanjaro.
Malli Mastan Babu (2006): First physically challenged Indian to summit (May 19, 2006). Born in Guntur, paralyzed left leg; conquered Manaslu and Kilimanjaro.
Arunima Sinha (2013): First Indian amputee to climb Everest (May 21, 2013). Former national volleyball player; lost left leg in 2011 train accident.
