What is River Phoenix famous for?

River Phoenix was an American actor, activist, and musician who rose to fame during the 1980s and early 1990s. He is best known for his roles in films such as "Stand by Me" (1986), "Running on Empty" (1988), "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989), "My Own Private Idaho" (1991), and "The Thing Called Love" (1993). Phoenix was also an accomplished musician and co-founded the band Aleka's Attic with his sister Rain. Sadly, he died tragically of a drug overdose in 1993 at the age of 23, cutting short what many believed was a promising acting career.
