Ghana's Presidency: Leadership Qualities Over Gender

The question of whether a man should be Ghana's next president frames the issue incorrectly. Gender is not a qualification for leadership. Ghana's 1992 Constitution sets eligibility: citizen by birth, ≥40 years, sound mind, registered voter—no gender restriction.

What matters:

• Vision & Policies: Concrete plans for economy, education, health, infrastructure, corruption.
• Track Record: Proven competence in governance, business, or public service.
• Integrity: Clean record, transparency, accountability.
• Inclusivity: Ability to unite diverse ethnic, religious, regional groups.
• Resilience: Crisis management (e.g., pandemic, economic shocks).

Ghana has capable women and men. The electorate should evaluate candidates on merit, not gender. Several women (e.g., Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Samia Nkrumah, Akua Donkor) have contested; more will. The best person—regardless of gender—should lead.
