Are There Other Kaabas Besides the One in Mecca?

The Kaaba in Mecca (Saudi Arabia) is the holiest site in Islam, believed to be the first house of worship built for Allah. It is the focal point of the Hajj pilgrimage and daily prayers (qibla) for Muslims worldwide.

Other "Kaabas"

Historically, several pre-Islamic Arabian sanctuaries were also called Kaaba (meaning "cube" or "square building"). Notable examples include:

• Kaaba of Najran (southern Arabia, modern Yemen)
• Kaaba of Dhu al-Khalasa (also in Yemen)
• Kaaba of Sindad (in Oman)
• Kaaba of Bahrain (in modern Bahrain)

Status & Significance

These were local pagan shrines housing idols; they were destroyed or abandoned after Islam's rise. None hold any religious sanctity in Islam today. The Kaaba in Mecca is unique in its divine origin (attributed to Ibrahim/Abraham) and universal role as the qibla.
