During the Rwandan Genocide, approximately two million Rwandans fled the country seeking refuge in neighboring nations. The majority of refugees, mostly ethnic Hutu, fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), then known as Zaire, with smaller groups heading to Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda.
