Where did the name Libya come from?

The name Libya is thought to be of ancient Greek origin, derived from the Greek word "libyē", which was first attested in the works of the 5th-century BC Greek poet Pindar. The name is believed to have been used to refer to the region of North Africa inhabited by the Libyans, an ancient Berber people who inhabited much of what is now modern-day Libya.
